In every family, the birth of a child brings mammoth joy and pleasure. However, it also brings some responsibilities that need proper attention to handle. If you want to be proud parents or consider the moment as a greatest gift of God, then you need to handle your responsibilities very carefully. As far as the responsibilities of parents are concerned, the first and foremost one is to provide an ideal and meaningful name to your child that will improve life quality of the child. According to numerology experts, the wrong name may change the whole life of the child and fill it with struggle and bad luck.

And this is the main reason that parents are very mindful about it to provide the right and a meaningful name to their babies. Therefore, they prefer baby names according to numerology. Today, for the bright future of children, most of the parents believe in numerology that is a study of numbers and a very interesting topic. According to numerologists, there are a firm relationship between all objects present in the universe and numbers.

They further remark that every number has precise features and qualities and select the right name that reveals the positive qualities and features of the numerical value matters a lot today. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that numerical value of baby names play a major role in paving the right path for their bright future. They also believe that every person has certain lucky number calculated on the basis of child’s birth and name.

Everyone believes in the methodology of numbers and numerology, but process of calculating numerological numbers varies according to cultures. However calling or reaching to a numerologist is one of the traditional and ancient ways for baby names according to numerology. But today, due to the lack of time and some other reasons, people prefer to look for numerologists from the comfort of their home.

For that, they also search on the internet to find an experienced numerologist. In this way, internet has also proved as a reliable source for such services where people can easily find the right platform either to get the knowledge of numerology or to find the right numerologist for baby names. Today, a number of astrological sites have also come a long way with the concept of numerology. Even, elders can also drop their quarries here to make the necessary change in the name to reduce the negative effects.

Article by Ajeet Khurana

Being pregnant is one of the greatest milestones in a woman’s life. The moment that you realize you are pregnant you know that life will never be the same again. In a split second a million things go through your head. What do I need to do? Is it a boy or a girl? What am I going to name it? Quite a few pregnant women — both young and old — start stressing about who would be the easier person to offend – Mabel or Mary when you are thinking about the baby name factor alone. Pregnancy is a time where your thoughts are constantly running a mile a minute about what this new change will bring for you.

The first thing you need to do when you realize you are pregnant, is start finding out about the steps you should take to have a healthy pregnancy. A woman’s health requirements when she is pregnant are much higher than normal. You are under demanding physical and emotional stress. Most of your nutrition will be carted off to a whole other person. Keeping fit and ensuring you get enough nutrients are much more important during pregnancy than any other time in your life. Put aside the other issues, although not of lesser importance, like baby names until you have learned of methods you can use to remain healthy throughout your pregnancy.

It is critical that you are regular in your visits to a health professional such as an OB-GYN or midwife. You will need to work this in your schedule if you work out of the home. Your health practitioner will monitor your entire pregnancy from beginning to end and advise you of all of the routine testing you will need. Don’t forget to ask questions on your visits. Especially if you are a first timer, you will have questions for every visit. Ready yourself for the long waits that you will have to make when you visit your OB-GYN. These are on call doctors and babies are not always born after business hours as those in the waiting room would like. There are more full waiting rooms with empty doctor’s office at the OB clinic than in any other practice. Now would be a good time to think about baby names, when you have the time. Chances are your clinic will have a few books sitting around as well.

Prenatal vitamins are another must. And here, you should also invest in actual prenatal vitamins. Your little bambino needs them as much as you do, so you will be doubling up on the things you normally take. Folic acid is a biggie as well. Research shows that in folate deficient moms, there is a higher occurrence of spina bifida in babies. Start these as well before you pin down a baby name. Your health is your priority; naming the baby is part of a later stage.

There are several other things that affect a woman’s health when she is pregnant. The time is now to get a doctor and start taking your vitamins. These steps will help you start out on the right note.

Article by Marie Wilson

Having a baby is one of the most moving and meaningful moments in the life of a parent. Just think, when you go through the big changes that bringing a child into the world entails, your names change forever from the first name your parents gave you to “Mommy” and “Daddy”. In a lot of cases you and your spouse will even get in the habit of calling each other by those names which can become a habit for the rest of your lives, or at least until your names change again to “Grandma” and “Grandpa”.

So it’s not uncommon to want to give your newborn child a name that is rich with meaning as well. Most of the common names that reach great popularity do have a history that may go back centuries in cultures from around the world. So by finding a good book of baby names or a web site such as babynamesworld.com, you can have some fun looking for names that have special meaning.

However, in reality, you have to wonder how meaningful that name will be to your child. If you took 50 children into a room and asked them to tell the meaning of their names, you would probably be looking at 50 blank stares. And when it comes down to it, western people really don’t think about the origins or original meanings of their names. It is more a trivia game to know that Jane means God is gracious or that Alexander means defender of men or that George means earth worker or that Erin means from Ireland. It is hardly something that will form the character of a child.

So to select a baby name that is meaningful in a genuine way, its best to connect the name to something the child will come to value as he or she grows up. That is why giving your child the name of a revered grandparent or someone from family history is very meaningful. Despite the fact that sometimes they don’t act like it, family is important to children and if they feel a connection to their family history that gives them validation and meaning.

Similarly using your child’s name as a connection to their legacy can be very meaningful to a child. In ancient cultures, a child is born into a village that may have been there for centuries. There is a sense of national identity and social value that comes just from being “a Frenchmen”, “A German” or “An Irishman”. And even though in modern cultures there is patriotic pride, a connection to a child’s ethnic origins can have deep meaning for them over time. And a child’s name can have very rich ethnic meaning to him or her.

There are many sources of meaning that can make the naming of your child an event that touches something bigger and better than the child or even the family. Giving the little one the name of a famous figure from history or popular culture can provide a connection to an inspirational leader. Reagan, Kennedy, Lincoln or Washington are first names for both boys and girls that connect to leaders in our culture that have changed things for the better.

Biblical names or names from religious history have a similar power to put deeper meaning behind the name of a young person. Or if your family has a great appreciation for the arts, names from the world of painting, film making or music can also reflect your admiration for the greats of that genre and connect your child to that world in a very natural way.

Once you open up the world of meaningful baby names, you may have trouble narrowing down just the right name for your child. Use normal common sense when using a meaningful name such as how well the name works with your last name and whether the name will be pronounceable and workable in an every day sort of way as well.

But by adding layers of meaning to the name of your child, you provide history, culture, family connection and role models whose shoes any child would do well to grow into and in a way, you are starting the task of molding that child to live up to that meaningful name in their future as well. And that is a good calling for any young person to live up to.

World conflicts have been put aside for a more pressing matter – the most popular baby name. Mohammed follows Jack as England’s top baby name, leaving Thomas in third place and creating a trend that is soon to skyrocket.

The surprising rise of the name Mohammed as the second most popular British name is an indication of England’s changing demographics. England is not the only country to experience a cultural shift. With the rest of the developed world going through a blending of different cultures, the distinct ethnic features that have been the marks of various countries are slowly disappearing.

There are three common spellings topping the national charts and more than twelve variations over all; the combined total of babies named a variation of the name has brought the religious symbol international spotlight.

The name Mohammed is the beloved favorite of Muslim families around the world, being the name of the founder of Islam. The range of spelling variations are a result of translating the name from Arabic.

Although Mohammed has a great chance at taking lead, the long time favorite baby boy name Jack currently crowns the tops of the charts. With no spelling variations in the top 100, the name has been the number one chosen boy name in almost a decade. Jack is considered by etymologists to be the familiar form of the name John, with well known bearers including the fiction writer Jack London and musician Jack White of the White Stripes.

With Jack in the lead, only a slight shuffling of places was seen in the top spots, with the largest change coming from the name Alfie entering the top 10.

Countries are becoming more multicultural by the day, and England has joined in the international phenomenon. With the trend very likely to continue, England’s top baby names may take a wild turn for the exotic.

Baby names and meanings have become more and more important to parents. Parents have started choosing names more on the basis of the meaning then on the name itself. Parents who have a child that they feel is a blessing will often look for names that mean blessing from god, blessed, etc. Also I think a lot of parents feel if they choose a meaning that is grandeur in nature then that child may become something big-shot.

Lets take a look at some baby names and meanings to see if any are right for you. If your looking for something that means blessing of God then you can choose from names like Esosa, Chinue, or Debashish. If you want something that just means blessing then Aashish, Chriki, or Branda will all give you that.

Do you want your child to be a leader or just looking for a name that means leader? Dean, Dona, Lusila, and Tarver all mean leader. Do you want to name your child after the day of the week they are born? Then these names should help.

Adva, Domingo, Kwashi and Palmiro all mean born on Sunday. If your child is born on Monday then there is some slim pickings here with only Kudio. Jumaane and Mardi are both for baby’s born on Tuesday. Yokkako is from Japan meaning child of the fourth day. For Friday you can choose from Afua, Jimoh, Jumah and Koffi. On Saturday Ama and Sanya are your two choices. You can also choose Natalie, born on Christmas or Pascasia for Easter.

Baby names and meanings come in all different shape, sizes and styles. If you want to go for a more classic name then there are plenty to choose from like Elizabeth meaning consecrated to God or Sarah meaning princess. For boys choose Joseph meaning God will add or Paul meaning small.

Whatever baby name you choose it is important that you are comfortable with it, since you will be the one saying and writing it over and over. Also you want to make sure that it is a name your child will enjoy.

Article by Valentina Kaltchev

Are you expecting? Then you are approaching a very significant and exciting time in your life. A new human being is on the way and there are a number of important decisions that must be made before the baby is born. One of them is selecting a name for your child. A person’s name becomes part of this person’s identity for a lifetime, and therefore choosing one for your baby is not an easy decision to make. There are many factors that must be taken into consideration. Obviously, you have to select a name that is gender appropriate and time period appropriate. You also need to decide which one, a modern or a traditional name, is more to your liking.

Differences between modern and traditional names

Besides the gender divide the other major division of baby names is between modern and traditional. A traditional name is one that is widely known and has been in use for centuries, such as George or Elizabeth. A modern name is one that is either made-up or has only been in use for a few decades, such as Jayden or Dallas. Traditional names do not deviate much from the original, while modern names can be entirely made-up thus sometimes creating truly beautiful names and sometimes real disasters.

Naming a child comes down to the parents’ personal preferences. Many parents want their children to have traditional names, such as John or William, because they are well known and common and therefore they believe the child will easily fit in. Other parents choose to give their children more modern names because they want them to be unique, exciting and above the ordinary.

Pros and cons of traditional names

Traditional names have always been a safe choice for parents because these names are generally common and well accepted as ‘normal’ names. Another advantage these names have is that they are usually easy to spell and pronounce which might make children more confident saying their names in public. There are also some disadvantages of choosing a traditional name. One of them is the fact that they are sometimes too common and often used by many people. Your child may find out he’s not the only “John” in the classroom. Another disadvantage of having a traditional name is that it’s not perceived as very creative one.

Pros and cons of modern names

Modern names are making a comeback and are more popular than ever. Many parents are striving for the uniqueness they bring to their children. Because of this uniqueness parents love modern names and see them as a way of giving their child a true identity when compared to a more common traditional name. Other parents don’t like modern names because they are often exotic, making them hard to pronounce and even harder to spell. Another disadvantage of modern names is that later in life a child may be uncomfortable introducing himself or herself only because the modern name the parents chose is so different and unusual.

Deciding on a baby’s name is parents’ privilege and responsibility, so don’t take it lightly. Choose a name with your child in mind and give him or her one more reason to love you!

Article by Sarah Butler

Choosing a baby name can be difficult. At first it seems like a fairly straight forward task but when it comes to settling on the final name there is so much choice and the result is often so final that the task can become difficult. If you are choosing a name before the baby is born and you do not know the baby’s sex then the task is doubly difficult as you need to have made two selections. So how can you make the job easier and more enjoyable?

First consider the type of name you want for your child. Are you looking for a unique name? Are you or you’re partner a member of a religious faith and want a name that reflects your baby’s religious culture, are you a member of an ethnic group and want to give the child a name that reflects this background? These are some of the parameters you can set to reduce the search for a name down to a manageable size. You can no doubt come up with other parameters.

The next step is to collate some research on names, their meanings, and their origins. Your sources for this material can be wide and varied. The advent of the internet makes this task easy. There is a plethora of websites dedicated to helping you choose a name or do a background study into the origins and meanings of names. Often these resources will list names or allow you to input a name into a search to track down their meanings and origins. If you are stuck for internet access you can buy specialist books or loan books from libraries.

Once you have got your research material you can start listing the names you like best or find most suitable. List the name, the meaning and any possible nicknames. Pay good attention to the nick names because any name you choose is likely to be shortened by friends or acquaintances of the child in the future which, if you don’t like the nickname, will lead to endless corrections on a daily basis.

Compare your list of names with your partners. Do you share choices or are you completely at odds with one another? Try combining lists and choices, try mixing potential first and middle names to find a choice of name you like and sounds good for both of you. Shortlist a number of options then don’t be afraid to ask family and friends what they think of the names you have come up with. Often they will have an opinion good or bad as to how to name your baby, but remember, the final choice is yours, you can’t make everyone happy.

Before you make your final choice, consider how the name will affect your child in the future as an adult. Think about how the name will look on a business card or other business stationery. Does it look professional or like a joke? Will the name be dated and unfashionable or can it stand the test of time? Your child has to live with this name forever so be sure to think of their future.

Article by Tony Luck

In England and Wales the most popular baby boy’s name in 2006 was Jack – that’s 12 years in a row that Jack has been at number one! Olivia is the most popular baby girl’s name, up from fourth place in 2005.

There was little change in the top 20 boys’ names with most just moving up or down a place or two. The exception was Alfie, up 6 places at 16. Other big movers were Jayden and Freddie, both up 16 places at 68 and 65 respectively; and Rhys, Lucas and Bradley, each up 16 places. Fallers included the older, more traditional names like Joe, down 15 at 78, whilst Patrick and Jonathan moved out of the top 100. New entries included Theo, Reuben and Ashton.

As usual there was more pronounced movement among baby girls’ names: Grace moved up 5 places to second, and Ruby climbed 11 at 4. Gracie was also popular, climbing 42 places to 51. Other climbers included Maya, Imogen, Matilda and Ava, while Abbie, Niamh, Shannon, Caitlin and Aimee all fell. New names to appear for the first time in the top 100 baby names were Isla, Martha, Lara and Layla.

In Scotland Jack replaced Lewis as the most popular baby boy’s name, and Sophie retained top spot for the girls. Fastest climbers were Keira and Leo – reflecting the popularity of actress Keira Knightley and Prime Minister Tony Blair who named his son Leo.

Parents in Northern Ireland choose Jack and Katie again in 2006. There was little change in the top 10 boy’s and girl’s names. Further down the rankings, baby boy’s names to increase in popularity included Lewis, Jake, Noah and Harvey; whilst girl’s names to climb the rankings included Ruby and Isabella. Fallers were Louis, Patrick, David; and Kathryn and Katherine.

Parents again mimicked celebrities with Cruz and Lexie increasing in popularity after famous footballers’ offspring; and Shayne and Preston, the names of the winners of two reality TV shows.

Article by Neil Street

A unisex or androgynous name is one which is used by both males and females. Sometimes parents choose a name because they know it’s a unisex name; other times, perhaps more frequently, parents are unaware that their chosen name is also popular with the opposite sex.

In some countries, such as Germany, the bestowing of unisex names is discouraged by law, which requires that babies be given names that conform to one gender or the other. In the United States, no such restriction applies. You can name your baby anything you like, and many parents do. In 2006, one leading pregnancy website reported more than 40 variations of the spelling of Mackenzie, among their readers.

Surprisingly, it is not among the ranks of the “made-up” names, such as Machenzzie, that the unisex names are usually found, although a few are. Most unisex names are names that have belonged at one time or another with one gender, ususally male. But over time, the other gender has begun to use the name as well, and may pull ahead in popularity. The trend is usually for girls to take ownership of names that used to belong to boys, often names that have fallen out of favor in recent years.

Conventional wisdom is that once a name such as the newly-hot Addison moves from the male to the female side, it will not move back. Generally, this seems to be true, although there are boy’s names such as Dylan and Tyler which have successfully fought off an incursion by the girls, and retained their male popularity.

How do you determine which names are unisex? Some names that used to be unisex, such as Adrian (now firmly a boy’s name), Erin (now definitely for girls), or Blair (now fading from sight) make it clear that the landscape of unisex names is always shifting, and is as much subject to the whims of fashion as other baby names.

One way to measure the popularity of unisex names is to begin by pulling all the boys’ and girls’ names that are in the top thousand most popular names, based on data from the Social Security Administration, the generally accepted standard for measuring popularity year to year. Then, names that are common to both lists can be placed in rank according to their actually popularity, and pretty soon the names that are popular with both boys and girls will become clear. Names that are highly-ranked for both boys and girls are therefore the most popular unisex names. Those names that are very popular with one gender, and only mildly popular with the other, are much less androgynous.

Using this methodology, for the latest data available, it is quite easy to come up with America’s Top Ten Unisex Baby Names. The most popular androgynous name, without a doubt, is Jordan. It is extremely popular with both boys and girls, and a bit more favored by boys than girls. Close behind come Alexis, Angel, and Riley. At number five is Peyton, followed by Taylor, Cameron, and Jayden. Number nine is Avery, and rounding out the top ten is the name Jaden, a variant spelling of number eight Jayden.

That’s the top ten for the year 2005, which are the latest figures available. No doubt when the figures for 2006 are released, in May of 2007, there will be some changes. But for the top four names, Jordan, Alexis, Angel, and Riley, change may be slow in coming. Those four were all popular unisex names more than a decade ago, and are still tremendously popular today. They are, without doubt, America’s top unisex baby names.
